"The arrival of digital technologies has transformed every aspect of communications and media — from making movies to making music. The new building for the School of Media Arts will make Santa Barbara City College one of the most advanced and prestigious digital arts programs in the country. Having a center devoted to emerging digital arts occupations is good for our students, good for the College, good for the community and good for the economy."
— Kevin Costner, Honorary Chair, School of Media Arts campaign, Foundation for SBCC
During my years on the Santa Barbara County Board of Supervisors (1999-2006), I became very involved in Santa Barbara City College (SBCC), which was in my district, and particularly the vocational programs SBCC presents in the School of Media Arts, including Web and Graphic Design, Film & TV Production, Game Design & Simulation, 3D Animation and Journalism.
In this age of digital media, SBCC has already begun to meet the promise of housing the premier South Coast hub for new media economic activity. While the School of Media Arts is very popular with students who seek a realistic path to technological careers, its many programs had been spread amongst various SBCC campus departments and buildings. Since leaving the Board of Supervisors, I've continued my involvement and commitment to support the many cutting-edge programs in the School of Media Arts program and to raise funds for the construction of its new green building. With LEED certification, the new building features state-of-the-art labs, editing suites, lecture halls, and broadcast, recording and CAD studios and more.
Join me in supporting the digital revolution through our local community college. For more information, contact me or visit the SBCC website at www.sbccfoundation.org/mediaarts.html .
